We're Back!
Greetings, Farm friends!
Spring has sprung and things have really picked up around the farm. As if out of nowhere, our fridge is brimming with flowers and produce, with infinitely more on the way. Lucky for us, we get to return to the Sunday market at Johnny’s this weekend!
Though the newsletter has been relatively quiet since December, we’ve managed to stay quite busy on the farm. We got a little bit of rest over the winter, but not too much! We spent most of January and February doing work on the farm’s Pennsylvania Bank Barn, which was likely built in the early to mid 1800’s. The barn is massive, and we never utilized the space quite as well as we would’ve liked to. We put up new wood siding on the outside of the barn, and inside, we built a beautiful new floral studio. Now that we’ve done a bit of work on the barn, we see so much potential for the rest of the space! Working on the barn was an extraordinary learning experience for us all, and it’s a joy to use the space each day. It’s truly an honor to work in a barn that was built by hand with amazing skill and craftsmanship so many years ago.
In March, our friends from Good Dog Farm and Kitchen Girl Farm built two new high tunnels for us. We’re incredibly thankful to have a community of farmers who will help us with big projects like this. The new high tunnels will help us grow even more overwintered flowers each year, and that’s something we’re pretty excited about. We’re also looking forward to filling one of them up with ginger this week.
We posted seedlings to our online store in February, and we’ve had tons of orders rolling in ever since! This week we delivered the first round of seedlings, and soon we’ll be delivering the Summer plants. If you haven’t placed your seedling order yet, be sure to get it in soon. We’ll be bringing seedlings to market with us each week, and we have some plant sales lined up in the coming weeks.
Our greenhouse is absolutely overflowing with plants. In addition to the seedlings we grow for our customers, we’ve got thousands of seedlings to plant on the farm. Greenhouse work keeps us extra busy this time of year. There’s never a shortage of things to do!
At the beginning of April, Meg and Jenna, our two new employees joined us on the farm. We’ve loved having them here, and they’re doing an incredible job of adjusting to our wild workdays. Together, we’ve inoculated 50 shiitake logs, covered all of our newly planted pawpaw trees to protect them from cicadas, harvested thousands of tulips, and potted up several thousand seedlings, along with all of the other regular farm tasks. We’re feeling very thankful to have a great crew this year. We’d be lost without them!
We’re looking forward to sharing the fruits of our labor with you all once again this season!
Here’s where you can find us this weekend:
Sunday, April 25th, 8:00 am - 11:00 am: Johnny’s
We’ll be at market with arugula, green garlic, radishes, shiitake mushrooms, and spinach. We’ll also have lots of Spring flower, vegetable, and herb seedlings. And, as always, we’ll be bringing bouquets and bunches of flowers!
Wishing you well,
Amelia and the rest of the Two Boots Farm crew
