Two Boots Farm

A family run farm and floral design studio in Hampstead, Maryland. We grow a wide variety of cut flowers and produce. We also have over 100 cultivated pawpaw fruit trees. We use ecologically sustainable practices so that future generations can continue to grow in healthy soil.

Pawpaw season continues

Greetings, friends!

As pawpaw season continues, we’re staying very busy on the farm. The pawpaw harvest consumes a significant chunk of time each day, and our flower harvests are quite large these days. Two big daily harvests combined make it challenging to get other work done. We’re powering through, though and the pawpaw season won’t last too much longer. Once it ends we will catch up on planting and crop maintenance. For now, we’ll take it one day at a time. In the next few weeks we’re looking forward to seeing the fields full of cool flower seedlings, ready for a long winter!

We’ve had a lovely week. Despite our busy days, we’re feeling pretty good about things on the farm, and the weather is delightful. We’ve had chilly mornings and warm, sunny afternoons. Next week looks a bit hotter, which is a bit concerning considering how much our crops seem to be thriving in this mild weather. Hopefully they won’t be too upset! Mid-Atlantic summers are long and often relentless, but we’ll try to enjoy the warmth while it lasts. Soon enough, frost will arrive and fresh flowers will be a thing of the recent past and not-so-distant future.

We’re back at the JFX market on Sunday from 7:00-12:00. Apologies to those who came in search of pawpaws last week. When I wrote the newsletter we really thought we’d have enough to send to JFX! Unfortunately it was a slow start to the pawpaw season and we just came up short. We will definitely have them available this week.

This week’s market stand will feature bouquets, bunches of celosia, cosmos, dahlias, eucalyptus, millet, and sunflowers. The produce selection will feature Asian pears, edible flowers, ginger, PAWPAWS, shishitos, shiitake mushrooms, and basil.
