Notes from the Field
Greetings, farm friends!
What a beautiful week it is! We’ve spent it harvesting, transplanting, and thinking about what we need to do to get ready for our slow season. The majority of our cool season flower seedlings were delivered this week, which means we got busy planting them right away. We’re looking forward to harvesting thousands of stems of snapdragons, orlaya, and other springtime blooms after the long winter rest. It’s been lovely to watch the farm transform over the past few weeks. Our crew works so hard to keep everything moving along and the farm looks amazing because of their hard work! We’ve got lots of beautiful stands of cover crop emerging, healthy seedlings in the ground, and gorgeous established plants continuing to pump out blooms.
With cooler temperatures and shorter days on the horizon we expect that our flower selection will soon begin to dwindle, but we’re hanging on while we can, and beauty remains abundant for now.
On Thursday morning we packed our delivery van and it may have been filled with the most blooms we’d ever squeezed in there! It’s such a pleasure to send out blooms to so many incredible local florists, and we’re quite proud of the thriving local flower economy that we’re part of. We couldn’t grow all of these flowers and do so with an eye towards good land stewardship and care for the world around us without the support of all of our customers. Thank you!
We’re back at the JFX Market this Sunday, October 8th .
This week’s market availability will feature bouquets, basil, bunches of dahlias, eucalyptus, celosia, marigolds, and of course, our build your own bouquet bar. We’ll also have figs, persimmons, pawpaws, and pawpaw seedlings!
Thanks for reading, and happy autumn!
