Two Boots Farm

A family run farm and floral design studio in Hampstead, Maryland. We grow a wide variety of cut flowers and produce. We also have over 100 cultivated pawpaw fruit trees. We use ecologically sustainable practices so that future generations can continue to grow in healthy soil.

 Farm Manager - Full time/Year round

Our Farm Manager of 7 years is moving on to attend grad school.  We are looking for a Farm Manager to help run the day-to-day activities at Two Boots Farm, a seasonal farm growing and selling cut flowers and pawpaws across Baltimore, DC and NOVA. This is a full-time, year-round, salaried position. 

The start date for this position is March 3, 2025.

The ideal candidate is someone with expertise in growing cut flowers. We are a highly collaborative farm with a strong emphasis on positive working relationships. This candidate will work closely with the Owner on day-to-day operations and problem solving. 

Two Boots Farm has operated for 11 years, and we have dialed in our growing and sales channels to run a profitable business. We primarily sell to florists throughout the Baltimore/DC region and at the Sunday JFX Farmers’ Market. Our current farm manager plans to work through mid-July and will work closely with the incoming farm manager during the training process.

Job Tasks/Duties:

  • Working in-person Monday - Friday, 7am - 3pm on the Farm from March - mid December * see Schedule notes below

  • Working one-on-one with the farm Owner for planning and implementing the farm’s day-to-day operations

  • Managing 4-5 part-time on-farm crew members and communicating with delivery drivers and farmers’ market staff

  • Setting clear goals and expectations for the farm crew each day

  • Maintaining records of planting, harvesting, and crop notes throughout the season

  • Working outside in all weather

  • Harvesting: participating in the flower harvest most days of the season. Our hot summers require quick morning harvests, working efficiently with an eye for quality

  • Planting: greenhouse management, bed preparation, transplanting, and direct seeding

  • Growing: weeding, trellising, pest and disease management, irrigation

  • Design: weekly bouquet making and occasional help with wedding design. 

  • Working special events on specific weekends such as pop-up markets: Approximately 1-2 weekends in May and 1-2 weekends in September and filling in at our Sunday market 1-2 weekends in the year. (For a total of ~3-6 weekends for the year). 

  • Working with the farm Owner on crop planning and placing supply orders

  • During the winter months (mid-Dec to end of Feb), this position will be hybrid. Part-time remote work planning, ordering supplies, etc. and part-time on-farm work to seed, plant, tend to overwinter crops, and do farm maintenance and general improvements. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Must have experience managing employees 

  • At least 3 years experience growing cut flowers (preferred) or vegetables

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and professional relationships with staff, Working collaboratively with co-workers.

  • Ability to work independently while remaining productive with minimal oversight 

  • Excellent communication skills with emphasis on listening and making people feel comfortable and welcomed

  • Excellent attention to detail and concern for quality control

  • Ability to acclimate to changing tasks and priorities

  • Curiosity, love of learning, and proactive researcher

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs

  • Physical stamina and the ability to work in all kinds of weather

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

Salary and Benefits:

  • Full time, salaried position starting at $41,000/year from March - June as a trial period, after which the position will transition to $50,000/year. 

  • Annual Flex PTO - 120 hours to be used for vacation, sick days, etc. * see Schedule notes below

  • Paid daily 30 minute lunch break 

  • Crew veggie garden to take produce from. 

Schedule notes: 

During our main growing season, March - mid December, we expect the candidate to be present and on the farm Monday - Friday, 7am - 3pm. A full week of vacation using Flex PTO is strongly encouraged during the summer. 

During the off season, mid December - late February, this position will be hybrid. Part-time remote work planning, ordering supplies, etc. and part-time on-farm work to seed, plant, tend to overwinter crops, farm maintenance and general improvements.  During this time there’s more flexibility with scheduling either using Flex PTO and/or unpaid time off.
