April Farm Updates
Greetings friends!
We’ve been pretty quiet on the blog recently, but rest assured, we’re busy as can be on the farm. Over the past month, we’ve rushed to adapt the farm to function in the new reality in which we’re living. That’s meant strengthening our cleaning and sanitizing procedures, rewriting our crop plan to incorporate growing produce for our new small CSA, transforming our marketing, and adjusting to the numerous other changes in daily life that have arrived with COVID-19. It’s been a challenge, but we’re fortunate to be experienced vegetable growers who are able to pivot on a dime. We are incredibly thankful for the support we’ve had from all of our friends and customers. We’ve seen an extraordinary demand for seedlings, flowers, and produce, and we’re thrilled to nourish you all during this difficult time. We’re planting up a storm on the farm, and we’re looking forward to harvesting thousands of blooms and abundant vegetables in the months to come.
One of the biggest changes on the farm recently has been having Finn, Elisa and Doron’s son, on the farm. Elisa spends the second half of the workday caring for Finn, which means we don’t see her quite as much as we’d like to, but it's also been so much fun to have a vivacious kid running around. He brings a lot of joy to us during hard times, and it’s been a treat getting to know him better. I’ve got so much respect for all of you who are parents! It sure seems like a lot of work!
Finn has been overseeing our planting, crop removal, and bed preparation, and he’s great at ensuring that we clean up after ourselves and get the job done right. He’s been able to lend a hand in the fields, and he’s definitely interested in what’s happening on the farm.
We’ve also got a new team member on the farm! In early April, we welcomed our new assistant farm manager, Dylan Moran, to the crew. I'll give him a proper introduction soon, but just know that he’s here working with us and we are thrilled to have him on the farm. I don’t know where we’d be without him!
We are still selling seedlings in our online store, available for pickup at the farm or at Motzi Bread in Charles Village. There are plenty of tomatoes, peppers, flowers, herbs, and dahlia tubers available.
For pickup Thursday, 4/23, we also have a salad kit available! Each salad kit will include 1/2 lb arugula, 1/2 lb spicy salad mix, 1 bunch cherriette radishes, and 1 bunch of chives. We hope to be offering similar produce bags in the near future, so stay tuned.
We’ve been selling out of flowers and produce in our online store, so keep an eye out as we update regularly! We’re also selling of food and blooms through Chesapeake Farm to Table.
We will be sending out more frequent newsletters from here on out, and I’m looking forward to sharing glimpses of farm life with you!
