Two Boots Farm

A family run farm and floral design studio in Hampstead, Maryland. We grow a wide variety of cut flowers and produce. We also have over 100 cultivated pawpaw fruit trees. We use ecologically sustainable practices so that future generations can continue to grow in healthy soil.

Catching Up

Greetings, friends!

We’ve been hard at work all week, rushing to transplant and prepare beds as fast as we can. The late frost in May was quite the setback for us—we held off planting a lot of things we would have liked to have in the ground by then, and now we’re still playing catch up! Thankfully, things are moving along and it feels like we might eventually catch up. We begin seeding crops in the greenhouse in January, and continue to seed things every single week until September.

With a small crew and a lot to accomplish each week, we sometimes struggle to prioritize greenhouse work and planting in favor of making it through our harvests, but if we leave these tasks in the dust, we feel the repercussions a few months later, and so do our CSA members and other customers! As a no-till, hand-scale farm, we sometimes envy other farmers who have tractors and various other tools that speed up the process of bed preparation and planting, but in the moments that we can easily see the fruit of our labor—productive crops grown in beautiful, rich soil, the work feels worth it. That’s not to say that a farm who practices tillage can’t have those things- we’ve just found that this is what works well for our scale.
