Welcome to September
Greetings, farm friends!
I hope that you have had the opportunity to enjoy this week’s gorgeous weather. We’re sure loving it on the farm! It appears as though next week’s highs will be back in the 90’s, so we’re savoring every moment of these breezy days while we can. Hopefully next week’s heat wave will be the last hurrah of the summer, and then we can ease into Autumn weather. As I’m sure you’re aware, September is all about dahlias and pawpaws for us, and we’re getting ready for the onslaught of our busiest harvest season. Sadly, looking as though this year’s pawpaw crop will be a small one, thanks in part to the big storm that rolled through in August.
There isn’t much to report this week In advance of pawpaw season, we’ve been getting as many farm maintenance tasks completed as possible, so we’re continuing to weed and feed perennials and make sure that all of our crops are looking healthy. Once September kicks into gear, we’re generally too busy to get anything done other than harvesting fruit and flowers and preparing orders. After the harvest ends, we head straight into farm cleanup! It’s hard to believe that the end of the growing season will come so soon; it seems like just yesterday that we were frantically harvesting peonies.
We’re back at the JFX Market this Sunday, September 3rd.
This week’s market availability will feature bouquets, bunches of dahlias, eucalyptus, lisianthus, millet, sunflowers, snapdragons, and of course, our build your own bouquet bar. No pawpaws yet, but we promise they’ll be here soon!
Don’t forget, we’ve got a floral painting workshop on the farm on September 9th with Patricia O’Brien!
Thanks for reading, and enjoy these waning summer days!
