Two Boots Farm

A family run farm and floral design studio in Hampstead, Maryland. We grow a wide variety of cut flowers and produce. We also have over 100 cultivated pawpaw fruit trees. We use ecologically sustainable practices so that future generations can continue to grow in healthy soil.

Springtime delights

Greetings, farm friends!

Finally, we’ve been blessed with some sunshine this week. It’s challenging to adapt to the heat, but we’re thrilled to see the fields drying out a bit. We’re planting up a storm and continuing to harvest tons of flowers. Peony season was off to a slow start, but they’re coming in strong this week. Our to-do list is about a mile long. but we’re hopeful that we’ll make significant progress in the coming week.

In the meantime, we’re basking in the abundance of blooms emerging from our fields these days. Baptisia, foxglove, snapdragons, stock and campanula are all in season at the moment, and we’re just smitten with these spiky stems. Known as line flowers in the floral world, these blooms guide the eye and define the shape and structure of an arrangement. I think that Spring is the best season for line flowers, as there are just so many different ones and each only blooms for a few weeks of the year. There’s a new one in bloom practically every week, and they’re all uniquely gorgeous.

Spring flowers are always fleeting, and we’re always so busy this time of year that it’s challenging to stop and soak in the beauty. As we rush through our harvests, I’m doing my best to occasionally take a deep breath and appreciate the peace and beauty that surrounds us. I hope you all are able to do the same.

Crop Spotlight: Poppies! Our market customers have been loving these this year. We grow two different varieties, hummingbird and champagne bubbles, in an array of colors. The hummingbird poppies are slightly larger than the champagne bubbles poppies, but the champagne bubbles are far more productive. Our florists particularly love the peach colored hummingbird poppies, which are perfect for Spring wedding palettes. Though they tend to be known for a poor vase life, we’re consistently getting 5+ days out of our blooms this year! \Poppies won’t be around much longer, as they despise the heat and humidity, but while they’re still here we’ll continue to appreciate their delicate beauty.

We send peonies to market relatively closed, but they’ll open up into these giants over the course of the week.

We’re at the Baltimore Farmers Market this Sunday, May 26th, from 7:00- 12:00!

We’re planning to bring bouquets, foxglove, poppies, peonies, ranunculus, snapdragons, and new Two Boots merch.

This Sunday will also mark the return of our ever-popular build your own bouquet bar! Pick your stems and we’ll wrap them up and send you on your way with a lovely, personalized bouquet.

It’s the last week for ranunculus and likely the last week we’ll have peonies, so get them while you still can!

Thanks for reading, and we hope to see you at the market!
