October's end
Greetings, friends.
A brief newsletter today because our crew had a long (and excellent) day, which included an after-work tour of Hillen Homestead and a fun natural dye workshop hosted by Kenya Miles, owner of Blue Light Junction. We’re eternally grateful to farm in the Baltimore area, surrounded by so many other brilliant and generous farmers and creators, always willing to share their knowledge, skills, and time. Last week we attended a farm tour at Pearlstone Farm, part of a monthly gathering our friend Joanna from Good Dog Farm has been organizing as an opportunity for farmers to congregate. It’s a joy to work around people who recognize the value of collaboration and community!
We’re wrapping up the season in record time, with most of our field cleanup done before November even begins! We can hardly believe that October is coming to a close and we’re already so far into our end of season task list. In just a couple of weeks our crew will cut back to working on a part time basis, and we’ll kick into planning mode. We’re looking forward to planting tulips and getting our dahlias ready for overwintering next week, and we’ll also sit down with our crew for an end of season debrief- a chance for us all to pinpoint what worked, what needs improvement, and what we want to change for next year.
This week we churned out a big batch of lovely autumnal wreaths, and we’ll bring them all to the market this weekend.
Upcoming Markets
We’re back at the JFX market on Sunday from 7:00-12:00.
This week’s market stand will feature bunches of eucalyptus, and if the plants provide, maybe a few other flowers. We' don’t have much produce left in the fields, but this week the selection will feature lettuce , turnips and pawpaws.
Wreaths are back! We’ll have lots of autumnal grapevine and wire hoop wreaths at the market this week.
Thanks for reading!
Take care,
Amelia and the rest of the Two Boots crew
