A Mother's Day Floral Frenzy
Greetings, farm friends!
A wild spring continues on the farm. We’ve had a lovely week, full of bountiful harvests, abundant sunshine, and spring planting galore! Beauty abounds on the farm, with these warmer days finally bringing out the peonies and so many other seasonal treasures. We’d been waiting for peonies, campanula, and a few of our flowering woodies to bloom for weeks and there’s finally progress, thank goodness. It can be incredibly challenging to predict bloom timing during our frenetic mid-Atlantic springtime, but everything opened up just in time for Mother’s Day this year.
Speaking of Mother’s Day, we’re making tons of bouquets for it! We’ll have them available at the Cylburn Arboretum Market Day on Friday (ticketed event) and Saturday (open to the public), at the JFX Market on Sunday, and at our on-farm plant sale on Sunday!
We’re looking forward to having a little bit more time to focus on field work once we wrap up Mother’s Day and seedling sale madness this week. Our crew has done an amazing job of keeping up with everything, and things are looking good in the fields. We’ll have summer blooms in no time! Now we just need to keep the weeds and groundhogs away.
Karen and her bee mentor checked on the beehives this week for the first time since introducing them to the farm. We’re happy to report that the bees seem quite happy at Two Boots, and they’re readily reproducing. It’s already time to add another brood box to the hives!
Upcoming Events
Cylburn Market Day: May 12th-13th
May 14th: Baltimore Farmers’ Market under the JFX. We’ll have bouquets, peonies, ranunculus, shiitakes, seedlings, and Two Boots Merch.
On Farm Mother’s Day Plant Sale: May 14th - please note, I listed the wrong date in last week’s newsletter- the 14th is the correct date!
Thanks for reading this far!
Wishing you all the best,
