Two Boots Farm

A family run farm and floral design studio in Hampstead, Maryland. We grow a wide variety of cut flowers and produce. We also have over 100 cultivated pawpaw fruit trees. We use ecologically sustainable practices so that future generations can continue to grow in healthy soil.

Seasonal Transitions

Greetings,

We really thought we were going to get a front last weekend, but it didn’t happen! There have been some small patches of frost around the farm in the early mornings, but the plants are still cruising along. To be quite frank with you, we’re ready for a killing frost! We’re especially ready to be able to dig up our dahlia tubers, which is one of the most daunting end-of-season tasks, and we have to wait until the plants are dead to do so. We’re still enjoying the flowers that are pushing through these chilly nights, and we’re making headway in getting the farm ready for winter. This week we’ve done a lot of bulb planting and cleaning up in our fields, and we’ve worked on making lots of wreaths and framed some pressed flowers. This is the last week that we’ll have our seasonal crew members working with us, and things are really starting to quiet down around here.

As we look towards next season, we’ve realized that we’re going to need another full-time person on the farm! Up until now, we’ve operated with just Elisa and I on the farm full-time, and a rotating crew of fantastic farmhands helping out during the busiest months of the season. We were so busy this year that it became apparent to us that in order to continue to farm this way, we’d really need another person around who would know the ins and outs of the operation and be able to help us maintain the quality and attention to detail that we insist upon in everything we do! It’s really exciting to be able to take this step, and we’re looking forward to it. So, if you know anyone with farm experience who is in search of a job, please share our job positing!

Beautiful buckwheat! We grow this as a cover crop, but it makes a delightful filler for floral arrangements.

We’ve found several morphs of the Snowberry Clearwing on our Scabiosa reccently. This is one of the green morphs, but there are also gorgeous brown ones! They become beautiful hummingbird moths.
