Two Boots Farm

A family run farm and floral design studio in Hampstead, Maryland. We grow a wide variety of cut flowers and produce. We also have over 100 cultivated pawpaw fruit trees. We use ecologically sustainable practices so that future generations can continue to grow in healthy soil.

Mother's Day Madness

Greetings, farm friends!

It’s Mother’s Day weekend and chaos reigns supreme on the farm for now.

Last week, after making a hundred bouquets for Flower Mart, Wren said something to me along the lines of “I thought making bouquets on Friday sounded so peaceful, but it’s really just total carnage” and, for now at least, that’s very true. The flowers are stunning and I’m proud of almost everything we send out the door, but when you look around at our design space at the end of a busy bouquets day, you’d think a tornado swept through. We work quickly, throw broken stems on the ground, abandon piles of blooms deemed unworthy of our time, and make an enormous mess. It’s chaotic, but it’s also a lot of fun! I’m looking forward to churning out 200+ Mother’s Day bouquets with the crew on Friday.

I’ve heard many a florist say that Mother’s Day is like the Super Bowl for flower people, and it’s true! Our delivery van was packed to the brim with flowers the week, and our driver Monique put in long hours to get everything into the hands of the designers.

In the midst of all of the Mother’s Day madness, we managed to do a bit of field work this week. We’ve got cosmos, marigolds, amaranth, didiscus, phlox, and ornamental peppers in the ground now, and much more to come in the coming weeks! It feels good to finally be planting, and we’re hoping for a little bit more sun next week to help dry out the fields and allow us to get in the ground.

Speaking of Mother’s Day and planting, it’s prime time to get your summer veggies in the ground! If you aren’t stocked up on seedlings, come see us at Cylburn Market Day on Saturday or at the Baltimore Farmers Market on Sunday. We’ve still got a nice selection of seedlings available, including plenty of tomatoes, peppers, and summer flowers.

The farm looks particularly beautiful on a grey day.

The poppies are out of control these days!

We’re at Cylburn Market Day on Saturday, May 11th from 8:00- 2:00 and at the Baltimore Farmers Market this Sunday, May 12th, from 7:00- 12:00!

We’re planning to bring bouquets, poppies, peonies, ranunculus, seedlings, and new Two Boots merch!

Come to market early for Mother’s Day blooms! We’re making as many bouquets as we possibly can. but we always sell out.

Thanks for reading, and we hope to see you at the market!
