Two Boots Farm

A family run farm and floral design studio in Hampstead, Maryland. We grow a wide variety of cut flowers and produce. We also have over 100 cultivated pawpaw fruit trees. We use ecologically sustainable practices so that future generations can continue to grow in healthy soil.

Frostmas Teaser and Winding Down

Greetings!

Elisa, shaping high tunnel beds. We might have been too ambitious when we decided to re-shape all of the tunnel beds this year! It’s a challenging job.

It’s been a chilly week, but we’re in for warmer weather next week. We had two light frosts on Wednesday and Thursday, but they left most of our blooms unscathed, leaving us with more to harvest for the foreseeable future. I can’t pretend as though we weren’t just a little bit disappointed not to have a killing frost this week (we’re tired and ready to put the farm to bed!) but we’ll enjoy having flowers while we still can.

We’ve still got a whole lot of work to do before we take it easy for the winter. We’re finishing up the big overwintered flower planting push, and soon we’ll soak ranunculus corms and seed stock. We’re getting a huge shipment of poppy seedlings next week, so we’ll have to get all of them into the ground ASAP. It may be October, but our brains are fully focused on May flowers at the moment.

We’re also planting a ton of new perennials this fall. We’ll be putting in japanese anemone, toad lily, perennial phlox, spiraea, hydrangea, weigela, and more. And, of course, we’re still awaiting our 2025 tulip bulbs! We’ve got our work cut out for ourselves but there is an end in sight. We’ll make the most of next week’s warm weather and do as much as we possibly can while it’s still gorgeous out.

We thought our field grown heirloom mums were a total loss after two weeks of rain, but some of them have recovered and sent out gorgeous blooms! Unfortunately it seems that we lost most of the mums we’d disbudded for larger blooms, but there’s still a lot of beauty hiding in this field.

This Sunday will be our last market of the year! We simply don’t have enough flowers to keep coming to the market each week, and so we’re wrapping things up a little bit early this year. It’s been a fantastic market season, and we so appreciate your visits to our stand. Dave and his market crew love to see you each week, and we love to hear their reports back from the market. Our customers are truly the best! We can’t wait to return next Spring.

We’re back at the Baltimore Farmers Market this Sunday, October 20th from 7:00- 12:00.

It’ll be your last chance to get your hands on Two Boots blooms this year, so please stop by and say hello!

We’re planning to bring bouquets, dahlias, eucalyptus, heirloom mums, salvia, and Two Boots merch. We’ll also have some ginger!

And, of course, the Build Your Own Bouquet bar is back.

Thanks for reading this far, we appreciate you!
