Two Boots Farm

A family run farm and floral design studio in Hampstead, Maryland. We grow a wide variety of cut flowers and produce. We also have over 100 cultivated pawpaw fruit trees. We use ecologically sustainable practices so that future generations can continue to grow in healthy soil.

Planting time

Greetings, farm friends!

Finally, we’re experiencing some weather slightly more typical of Spring. We had a brush with frost on Monday, and covered our most mature peonies in a frenzy. Luckily, it appears that all things emerged unscathed, and we’re hopeful that we’ll free of frost from here on out. We’ve spent the week focused on tying up all of our loose ends for our seedling sales, and we’re finally ready to pack up orders and clear out the greenhouse! We’re incredibly thankful that this week’s cooler weather gave us some reprieve and time to catch up on work other than harvesting flowers. On Thursday the crew prepped lots of beds, getting us ready for one of the biggest planting weeks of the season next week.

We had an exciting arrival on the farm this week— two new beehives! Karen took a beekeeping class over the winter and will be tending to these new residents. We’re excited to have even more pollinators buzzing around the farm.

We’re getting ready for Flower Mart next week! We’re excited to hunker down at our stand in Mount Vernon on Friday and Saturday with as many seedlings and flowers as we can fit into our two vans. It should be a great weekend! Come out for lemon sticks, workshops, music, and of course, flowers.

Flower Mart runs May 5-6th from 11:00 am - 8:00 pm

Did you order plants through our online seedling sale this year? We haven’t forgotten about you! Online plant sale items will be going our next week. You’ll soon be receiving an email confirming your pickup information.

We always try to wait until it’s an appropriate time to plant out summer seedlings before delivering plant sale orders. We know that you’ve seen tomato seedlings at the farmers market and on the racks at the hardware store, but it’s still a bit early to plant them! Ideally, you’ll plant summer seedlings once nighttime temperatures are above 50 degrees and the risk of frost has passed. Next week still looks a bit cool, so if you have heat lovers in your seedling order, you may want to spend a few nights hardening them off before planting out. Elisa will explain this in your confirmation email!
