Two Boots Farm

A family run farm and floral design studio in Hampstead, Maryland. We grow a wide variety of cut flowers and produce. We also have over 100 cultivated pawpaw fruit trees. We use ecologically sustainable practices so that future generations can continue to grow in healthy soil.

Autumn's Treasures

Greetings!

We’ve had another busy week on the farm. Our last CSA shares of the season went out on Thursday afternoon, and we’re preparing for a potential frost this weekend, which could mark the end for many of our flowers. It’s a bittersweet time of year. As much as we look forward to slower days and more free time, we' always miss the abundant, daily harvests, and the opportunity to share them with our community. We are so thankful for all of the support we’ve had from CSA members, market customers, florists, and friends this year. You have carried us through the season and it’s brought us so much joy to share the bounty with you. Thank you!

Heirloom mum season has arrived! Every year we just want to grow more of these beauties.

As we ready the farm for frost, we’re still harvesting bucketfuls of dahlias, loads of mums, and a fantastic selection of produce. For our CSA, we harvested some of the daikon radishes from our cover crop and had many that were over a foot long! Daikons are a fantastic vegetable and when used as a cover crop, do a great job of breaking up heavy, compacted soil. Our fall brassica crops are looking good, as are the cool flowers that we’ve got planted. The biggest project we’ve got going on right now is readying the orchard for planting 82 new pawpaw trees next week! We’ve got a lot to do before winter comes.

Kohlrabi harvest! We under-sowed red clover in this bed a few weeks after planting the kohlrabi. The kohlrabi crop was gorgeous and now we have a great stand of clover cover crop in its place!

We’re still accepting preorders for wreaths! We’re currently only accepting orders for grapevine wreaths, but later on in the season we will begin making evergreen wreaths as well. The wreaths we make in early Autumn tend to be abundant in dried flowers and grasses. Closer to Thanksgiving, we’ll begin offering wreaths with more berries and evergreen branches incorporated in the design. Place your wreath order here.

The last CSA share of 2020! And perhaps the only time we remembered to take a CSA share glamour shot.

Here’s where you can find us this weekend:

October 18th, 8:00 am - 11:00 am: Johnny’s

We’ll be at market with arugula, braising mix, broccoli, butternut squash, carrots, chard, collard greens, edamame, eggplant, hakurei turnips, kale, kohlrabi, lettuce mix, shishito peppers, sweet potatoes, radishes, sweet peppers, bouquets, wreaths, and dahlia bunches.

Though our CSA has ended for the season, we’ll continue to offer produce boxes for pickup on Thursdays through our online store. The order period closes on Tuesdays at 11:59 pm. We’ll offer these until start to run out of produce!

Wishing you well,

Amelia and the rest of the Two Boots Farm crew
