The waiting game
Greetings!
We emerged from last weekend’s light frost with only a small bit of damage, and so it’s looking like we will continue to have flowers and abundant produce for another week. With the CSA season over, we’re beginning to have more time to focus on other work around the farm. In a way, we’re anxiously awaiting a killing frost; though it’s wonderful to have flowers right now, we’re also ready to begin our seasonal transition, and consistently having 75+ degree days in mid-October are not what we’re used to! By now, we’ve generally had a killing frost and we’re ready to shift into projects like dahlia tuber storage, wreath making, and fall cleanup. For now, we’re playing a waiting game and working on smaller projects, ready to jump into gear as soon as the weather cools off.
We’re still accepting preorders for wreaths! We’re currently only accepting orders for grapevine wreaths, but later on in the season we will begin making evergreen wreaths as well. The wreaths we make in early Autumn tend to be filled with dried flowers and grasses. Closer to Thanksgiving, we’ll begin offering wreaths with more berries and evergreen branches incorporated in the design. Place your wreath order here.
Here’s where you can find us this weekend:
October 25th, 8:00 am - 11:00 am: Johnny’s
We’ll be at market with beets, broccoli, butternut squash, chard, collard greens, hakurei turnips, kale, lettuce mix, shishito peppers, shiitake mushrooms, spinach, sweet potatoes, radishes, sweet peppers, bouquets, wreaths, and dahlia bunches.
Though our CSA has ended for the season, we’ll continue to offer produce boxes for pickup on Thursdays through our online store. The order period closes on Tuesdays at 11:59 pm. We’ll offer these until start to run out of produce!
Wishing you well,
Amelia and the rest of the Two Boots Farm crew
We visited Threefold Farm in PA this week. Here’s Elisa in their amazing climate battery greenhouse, where they grow incredible fig trees!
