Farm Happenings: Events, Seedling Sale, and More!
Greetings, friends!
The greenhouse is beginning to fill up and we’ve started planting out the year’s first seedlings. Anemones are beginning to bloom, the first planting of ranunculus is budding up nicely, and we should be harvesting the first tulips early next week. We always lose some of our field planted overwintered flowers to the cold, wet winters— this year it appears that snapdragons and ammi took the biggest hit. Fortunately, we’ve got an abundance of healthy snaps in our high tunnels, so we shouldn’t be missing them too much! For the most part, things on the farm are looking pretty good. We’re looking forward to bountiful harvests in the very near future!
Right now most of our work days are still focused on infrastructure projects and getting things organized for the season. Next week we’re looking forward to having the crew out to prune the pawpaw trees, and in no time we’ll all be hard at work harvesting, planting, and potting up seedlings.
We’ve started to plan out our events calendar for the year, and we have a lot to look forward to.
In April, Elisa is hosting a floral jewelry workshop on the farm. Participants will learn to make floral jewelry using the earliest Spring blooms.
Later on in the season we have a couple of centerpiece workshops on the farm, and of course, winter wreath workshops. We’ve also got a couple of farm dinners in the works, and our on farm plant sale happening in May!
Check out the Visits and Workshops section of our website to find out more about what’s in store for the season.
Flower Share members get a 20% discount on all Two Boots workshops—if you’ve signed up for a Flower Share and need the discount code, shoot us an email!
Ordering for our 2023 Plant Sale is open until April 24th! With Spring only a few days away, garden planning season is in full swing.
I’m particularly excited to be offering two varieties of echinacea, three types of milkweed, and our favorite raspberry variety this year. We’ve got lots of great landscaping plants and plenty of seedlings that grow well in containers.
Plants will be ready for pickup in early May— we will contact you with details in advance of the pickup date. We’re offering 6 different pickup sites for your convenience, with locations in Baltimore, DC, Silver Spring, and Carroll County.
We’re excited to share that we’ll be back at the JFX market in April, and we’ll return to Flower Mart in May! Until then, you can find us on the farm, welcoming the sun’s return and taking in the stunning beauty of early spring flowers.
Wishing you all the best,
Amelia and the rest of the Two Boots Crew
